Mission Statement
We recognize the strength of grassroots organizing, powered by activism and our civic responsibility at a local level. The Acadiana Tea Party mission is to organize like-minded individuals, inform and activate others, and secure positive public policy consistent with our values.
The Tea Party core values are those upon which America was founded. And those values are rooted in our shared heritage and belief in natural law. They are derived from a belief in personal responsibility and personal free-will. And the understanding that government must be kept under the reigns of the citizens. Not the other way around. Our view of how government should function is rooted in the principles of federalism as it is set forth in our Constitution. We believe in limited government, and that most issues, especially social issues and the Constitutional protection of God-given rights, are best decided at the state and local levels.
The primary impetus for the Tea Party movement has been excessive government spending, and other governmental actions which we feel are decimating our culture and country. This is a key element of what binds us together as a group, but it is also strategic in that it has the ability to unite a super-majority of American voters. In general, the Tea Party Movement avoids focusing on social issues, or the detailed specifics of issues, as this can be used to divide us and dilute our message.
It isn’t that social issues, or the detailed specifics of issues aren’t important; they certainly are. But by keeping our focus on the larger philosophical picture we can motivate others to feel comfortable in joining our ranks where their voice can also be heard. This gives us an ever increasing voice to be heard all the way to Washington D.C. Since our organization is grassroots and built from the bottom up, we can send a united message on our shared values. And address the rest at the local level as we see fit.
